ABOUT
Fifteen years ago, I left my job as a kindergarten teacher to stay home with my first daughter. I’ve always loved the creative side of teaching, and before long, I was making playful things for my own kids—items that sparked pretend play, imagination, and joy. I think I’ve always had a bit of that entrepreneurial spark—finding ways to create, connect, and bring ideas to life.
Superkid Capes was born in 2010 when I started sewing superhero capes as gifts. I had no formal sewing training—just curiosity, creativity, and a kitchen table. One Etsy listing turned into thousands of capes. Three additional daughters later, I expanded to a workshop and hired a small staff of women.
In 2018, still feeling deeply connected to teachers, I added a small collection of t-shirts with uplifting messages for educators. What started as a side offering quickly gained momentum—especially at education conferences across the Midwest, where certain designs would often sell out.
That collection has now grown into its own thing: a dedicated line devoted to encouraging the encouragers.
It’s called Kind Class Threads.
Today, Superkid Capes is ranked in the top 1% of Etsy shops based on sales, and the shirts have become a meaningful way to support educators while sharing simple, powerful messages of encouragement and joy.
Kind Class Threads is all about uplifting teachers and classrooms through an ever-growing collection of soft, comfortable t-shirts and classroom capes that remind students (and teachers) that they matter—created to support educators, celebrate students, and bring a little light into the everyday moments that mean the most.
I never dreamed I’d go from lesson plans to cape patterns and t-shirt designs. As a teacher, I loved taking children on adventures through learning. In some ways, not much has changed. I’m still passionate about creativity and imagination—about creating tools that spark joy, confidence, and connection for kids, and supporting the people who have dedicated their lives to doing the same.
Whether it’s a child wearing a Kindness Cape or an “It’s My Birthday” cape, or a teacher in a tee that says “It’s a Beautiful Day to Learn and Play” or “Kindness Is Contagious”—the heart behind it all is the same:
Encourage the encouragers. Celebrate the everyday heroes.
Spark courage, creativity, and connection.
